Without disempowering stories of ‘overcoming’ and the mythical ‘supercrip’ our Sports Changemakers are working to dismantle limiting and false stereotypes.
The popularity of the paralympics is immense but it can also create what Stella Young called ‘inspiration porn’ which objectifies disabled people as props for others to feel better.
Our Sports category is the last but not least group within the exhibition. One Changemaker has a highly popular Instagram channel where she shares videos of her award-winning powerlifts, and the other runs an extremely popular Crossfit Class and design lab for prosthetic limbs.
